Dilute Green describes its visibly softened green coloration, while Single-Factor Yellow describes the genetics responsible for the phenotype. In European aviculture, the term Suffusion is also used, reflecting the characteristic softer, washed appearance of pigment through the plumage.
Although the terminology varies internationally, these names refer to the same distinctive Gouldian phenotype.
 
All three terms describe the distinctive lighter, pastel-like appearance created when the normally deep green back plumage is softened to shades of lime, yellow-green, or pastel green.

Dilute males can play an important role in a Yellow Back breeding program. When paired appropriately, they can produce beautiful Yellow Back daughters, making them particularly useful for breeders looking to establish or develop their own Yellow Back lines.
Their softer coloration also gives them considerable visual appeal in their own right. Rather than the intense dark green of a standard Green Back male, the plumage takes on a much lighter, softer appearance while retaining the characteristic Gouldian colour pattern.
 
Understanding the Names
Dilute Green describes the bird by its appearance—the standard green coloration is visibly softened or diluted.
 
Single-Factor (SF) Pastel Green describes the bird genetically and is commonly used in breeding circles for the single-factor form that produces this lighter phenotype.
 
Suffusion is another term encountered particularly in European-derived Gouldian terminology for these softly coloured birds, referring to the appearance of yellow suffusing through the green plumage.
Regardless of the terminology used, these birds are male only and cannot be White Breast.
Red Head and Black Head varieties are offered together, while Orange Head is listed separately because Orange Head introduces an additional mutation.
